Understanding the three core benefits their product provides – practical illumination, aesthetic enhancement as well as mood creation – the team at Custom Lighting sought to conceive a showroom that eschewed the prevailing stark white glare of a retail lighting experience, opting instead for a richly layered space of deep colour and texture.

Commissioning much-lauded Flack Studio with the task of designing the new showroom located within a heritage-listed 1950s former bank building Melbourne’s inner-east, Custom Lighting set the brief for a space that would be designed to intimately showcase their high-quality lighting and to meet the specialty needs of architects, interior designers, trade professionals and homeowners.

Flack Studio, known for their idiosyncratic approach wherein architecture and interior projects holistically blend textiles, furniture, lighting and fittings created a series of lush backdrops for the collection, and notably, a number of distinctively decorated private consultation rooms. Generous fabric drops in rich hues from navy to deep ginger and darkest grey create increased areas for exploration, whilst plinths and walls in a variety of timber, stone and textured paint finishes add intrigue to the journey within the space.

Across all floors throughout, the scheme is unified by Fibonacci’s Cool Stream. Its specks of bluestone pepper the ground between small stones of rust, olive and grey providing a sea of rich warm and cool tones settled within a quite neutral grey base.

“Cool Stream’s unique colourway was designed to complement an array of interior schemes, many of which have been captured in this stunningly eclectic showroom. Despite its complexity, it doesn’t overpower or outshine – it’s an incredible team player - perfect for these professional retail environments. Congratulations to all involved,” says Fibonacci’s Founder, Michael Karakolis.
