At the heart of the Write DESIGNER campaign is a sixty-second film. Over Jonah Gabriel’s score, N’fa Jones repeats a simple provocation: you can’t. Can’t hear. Can’t see. Can’t breathe. Can’t be heard. Can’t feel seen. With each refusal, the film responds: designers prove you can.
From restoring the senses and caring for the planet to shaping culture, driving enterprise and productivity, celebrating ingenuity, strengthening communities and sharing Australian imagination with the world, the film reveals the extraordinary breadth of contemporary Australian design.
Spanning medical devices, consumer products, fashion, jewellery, visual communication, service design, transport, interiors, wayfinding and public infrastructure, the works featured demonstrate how design is woven into everyday life. Together, they reveal the many ways designers help us hear, see, breathe, move, communicate, belong, imagine and make.

The campaign is both a celebration of Australian design and an invitation to recognise the profession behind it. It invites every designer, regardless of discipline or practice, to see themselves as part of something larger. On Census Night, that sense of belonging becomes action by proudly writing DESIGNER and helping make Australia’s design workforce visible.

On Sunday 24 May, as part of Melbourne Design Week 2026, Fibonacci Director Michael Karakolis joined four of Australia's most considered design practitioners for a conversation called Why Tall Poppy?, a panel held inside the Tall Poppy exhibition at Kelli Lundberg Art, Moorooduc, and moderated by Tiffany Jade.
The name was never chosen so much as recognised. It came from an older conversation about the pull designers of an earlier generation felt offshore, toward the ecologies that simply didn't exist here yet. The artisans, the engineers, the precision of places like Milan, where a wall-mounted light could behave like architecture and a furniture piece could move like a fine instrument. For a young designer with serious ideas, staying had felt less like a choice than a limitation

The premise of the panel was that something has changed — not entirely, and not as fast as it should have, but enough to make the question worth asking again.
Alongside Gordon Tait (Made by Tait), Mardi Doherty (Studio Doherty), Jean-Pierre Biasol (Biasol Studio), and Leisa Wharington (Glassblower and Co-Founder, The Studio &amp; Co.), the conversation moved across conditions: what it takes to build a serious design practice in Australia, where the gaps remain, and what becomes possible when the support actually exists.

Michael spoke from the position he knows well: the material side of the design industry, the supply chain, the slow work of removing friction so that designers can specify with confidence. But the line he kept returning to was broader than product. What Australian design needs, he argued, is a return to being design-led, and a handing back of stewardship over the built environment to the people trained to hold it. Not as nostalgia, but as a precondition for quality.
The panel touched on territory that doesn't always surface in public design conversations: the lack of IP protection for furniture makers, the blurred lines between interior stylists and registered interior designers, the "Australian washing" of products assembled here from entirely offshore components, the quiet erosion that happens when lead times become a reason to respecify rather than a problem to solve. These aren't abstract industry grievances. They're the daily friction that either grinds a practice down or sharpens it.
What the room held, and what the exhibition surrounding it made visible, was evidence that staying and building seriously here is possible. Fifteen practices gathered in one space, each doing exactly that.
Fibonacci was proud to be a founding partner of the Tall Poppy exhibition. But more than that, we were glad to be in the room for a conversation that took the conditions of making in Australia seriously. Not as complaint, and not as celebration, but as something worth examining clearly.

Why Tall Poppy, and why it mattered

Tall Poppy Syndrome is so embedded in how Australians talk about ambition that to name an exhibition after it — to look it directly in the face — takes a particular kind of courage. Tall Poppy, part of Melbourne Design Week 2026, does exactly that. That courage is visible in the work of the fifteen Australian artists and designers gathered here.
Curated by Tiffany Jade and presented by Kelli Lundberg Art at The Studio &amp; Co. in Moorooduc, the exhibition marks the first time Melbourne Design Week has programmed an exhibition on the Mornington Peninsula — a reminder that creative rigour is not a metropolitan inheritance. It belongs wherever the thinking runs deep.

The fifteen practices span furniture, ceramics, sculpture, glass, and lighting. Their work does not hedge. It does not soften its convictions. Together it presents a cohort that has chosen to stand for something — and to do so here, on home ground.

Back in February, Fibonacci was proud to support Sightline — a thought-leading forum for design intelligence led by Dana Tomic Hughes. When Dana first shared the idea, our support was immediate because it felt important. She was going to do it regardless — which speaks to her commitment to the program.

During the event, we also shared a glimpse into our thinking through a short brand film — reflecting on material, process and the role they play in shaping meaningful spaces.

Designed by Biasol, the project is grounded in material refinement, where timber, stone and surface are resolved with clarity and restraint. Every curve, junction and transition reflects a commitment to quiet luxury and enduring craft—where the tradition of making meets the precision of modern production, and joinery becomes something deeply considered and personal.
Within this setting, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/eminence" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Éminence</a> contributes to a broader material composition—one that prioritises texture, balance and longevity over immediate effect. Defined by its natural finish, the surface retains a subtle tactility, allowing the aggregate to remain perceptible underfoot. This gentle texture softens the material’s presence, giving it a quiet depth that shifts with light and movement.
The installation process was documented as part of the project—capturing the care, precision and expertise required to realise the material properly. These moments speak to the importance of skilled trades in bringing a surface to life, and the role of process in shaping long-term performance.

Casa Graziano and the first expression of Éminence

Shaped by a complex union between visual prowess and durability, Fibonacci has drawn constant inspiration from Australia’s striking and diverse environments, taking cues from Mother Nature’s eminence to reflect that into an array of built spaces with An Australian Kaleidoscope extending and elevating this ethos. 

“It’s no secret I love to draw on natural landscapes when designing colours,” affirms Fibonacci Founder Michael Karakolis. “Australian landscapes are more diverse than in any other country. I believe that our environment subconsciously influences our creativity, and here, that has led to a collection that I feel captures a combination of the ruggedness of Australia’s alpine region with the spectrum of seascapes across the country and the seasons and the prehistoric tranquility of the Kimberley rainforest.”

The first of the collection of four terrazzo’s is Hokey Pokey. Radiating with warmth and the essence of a sun-baked late afternoon, this is a stone imprinted with the joy of a lazy summer day, perhaps a holiday memory that captures the moment when the sun begins its descent and the pavements become the threshold between beach and home.

Third is Gecko. Inspired by one of the world’s last wilderness frontiers, the Kimberley Region, this stone is filled to the brim with fragments large and small that mimic the abundance of wildlife, the incandescent reds of the canyons, the botanical richness of the untamed rainforests and the cooling aquamarine of freshwater swimming holes.

Finally, Fruit Cake imagines the brushstrokes of Van Gogh or Henri Rousseau had they had the opportunity to paint the Australian landscape. Imagine the rich, dark depths, the gilded confetti of colour they would undoubtedly render on canvas. The impressions of scaly lizard life, brutal summer storms, colours reminiscent of the candied interior of a summertime fruitcake. Imagine bejewelled midnight expressions meeting the surface of textured stone…

The kaleidoscope of the four new slab colours converges in a collection that pays homage to the grit and tenacity of the natural landscape, the vibrant diversity of its visual poetics, and their chameleon-like ability to both define and integrate into design.

Featuring aggregates extracted from a quarry in Verona, Italy, it leans into the elegant strength and magnetic poise that defined one of the world’s greatest ballerinas, Anna Pavlova. Simultaneously delicate and substantial, this stone is emblematic of the eloquence and softness that marks something or someone as innately ‘feminine.’ 
Imbued with the ancient and enduring colourways of Verona’s natural and architectural terrain, Sugar Sugar harnesses a captivating duality. Sweet of colour and cold of touch. Green is the colour of the chlorophyll in leaves, of precious stones like emerald and jade and cool alpine waters. It is a colour associated with wealth, nature, life and health, a colour that’s been missing in the Fibonacci range until now.
 
Rising out of nature to form the foundation of a new design culture, the No Ordinary Green collection takes cues from the mineral and botanical world to introduce an air of alpine cool into the design context. Emerging from an intent to develop a green, unlike anything else available in the architectural materials market, it is a collection that took an intrepid discovery process, outside normal supply channels, to define itself. The resulting stones — <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/slipstream" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Slipstream</a> and <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/peppermint-crisp" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peppermint Crisp</a> — are imbued with the striking mineral qualities of their Austrian geology, holding the frigid crystalline beauty of the landscape from which they were quarried and layering that exquisitely jewelled ruggedness into every space they appear.

<a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/slipstream" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Slipstream</a> is a texturally rugged stone that finds an affinity with brutalist and mid-century design movements alike. A tonal story of concrete and slate, it holds within it the mineral essence of botanicals. This changeable, textured stone carries tiny flints of green and grey alongside meteoric rocks shot through with white and umber to seamlessly reconcile nature and industry.

Clasped in a plaster-hued base, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/peppermint-crisp" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peppermint Crisp</a> is defined by a diverse composition of robust natural stone pieces. Each of these products is visually captivating and singular, bringing an atmosphere to the built environment unlike any other material. “I love the alpine coldness of the raw material we use in these two colours,” says Fibonacci Founder Michael Karakolis. “We have been missing a green in our range, and these, drawn from a third-generation family-owned quarry, lend themselves to diverse stylistic contexts."
 
“When you look at both stones, you can see how the background changes alters the colour of the natural stone,” he continues. “This is one of the things I love about our products: the way their colour story influences how we see everything else that surrounds them.”

No Ordinary Green–an avant-garde celebration of colour and its profound impact on design.

The Ochres, a collection of 3 new colours, has been envisioned in deference to the striking russet colourways and infinite inspiration found in Australia’s brilliant red landscapes. Crafted to capture the singular qualities — silence, tranquillity, spirituality — of Uluru and Kata Tjuta (The Olga’s), the range is both inherently familiar and unlike anything Fibonacci has produced to date.
The muse of many artists due to the weight of its silence and deep spirituality, Australia’s Red Centre has been the catalyst for many renowned artworks. These stones take cues from the resonance of Bruno Munro’s Field of Light installation, subtly referenced through a colour story ranging from pinks and violets to maroon and beige, all suspended in an ochre-toned palette.

“We’ve loved terracotta and reds for many years and were always challenged with deciding which direction to go – orange or red? A recent design collaboration, alongside the profound experience of being in the presence of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, consolidated that there is something so powerful about Australian reds. These products sanctify and celebrate those differences.”

The Ochres | On Solid Ground

Featuring aggregate extracted from a quarry in Verona, Italy, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/juliettes-kiss" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Juliette’s Kiss</a> draws literature to extract meaning from materiality. Named for its intrinsic connection to Verona, the setting of William Shakespeare’s most well-loved tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, this new stone demonstrates the expressive versatility of material composition and its capacity to evoke the senses according to the founding elements of design — colour, tone, shape, form, value and texture.
 
Extending on the enchanting story of its development is another of Verona’s famed landmarks, Casa di Giulietta, said to be the inspiration for the play’s setting. With its disarming gothic architecture, the historical residence stands as a symbol of timeless love, attracting visitors eager to connect with the tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet. The iconic balcony, immortalised by Shakespeare, invites countless couples and dreamers to experience the magic of the story, while the charming courtyard brims with love notes and locks, creating a vibrant testament to the enduring legacy of passion and longing that this setting embodies.

With its delicate confetti-like pattern language, Juliette’s Kiss harnesses the feminine spirit's beguiling charm and the fortitude woven into the femme psyche. Featuring Rosso Corallo aggregate, it has been derived from a strong feminine palette to continue the expressions of Fibonacci’s<a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/pavlova"> Pavlova</a>, with its blushed nude, soft pink, peach and terracotta palette, alongside the architectural language of Casa di Giulietta. A clustered constellation of rich colours has been cultivated within a base of contrasting sandy lightness that retains the boldness of its predecessor while cultivating an entirely different aesthetic.

In good design, it’s not always the case that bigger means better. Similarly, small changes can’t always produce big results. However, with the release of Fibonacci's new extra-large terrazzo slabs, what seems like an incremental upsize has created a colossal optimisation to its design potential.

Fibonacci ups the design ante with new extra-large terrazzo slabs

Fibonacci’s desire to create a product that ‘is more than the sum of its parts’ has once again been realised as being more than a lofty design fever dream with the release of Strato Collezione Marmi, a dynamic range of furniture and decorative accessories by <a href="https://biasol.com.au/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Biasol Studio</a>.

Strato Collezione is a limited edition range of modernist pieces constructed of Fibonacci’s <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/deep-vault" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Deep Vault</a> slabs and marble. “Strato is inspired by the artistic expression of Ettore Sottsass’s infamous Memphis movement with each piece distinguished by nominated materials expressed through geometric form - whilst conforming to its small batch manufacturing, limited collection appeal,” says Jean-Pierre Biasol, founder and director.

When invited by NGV Melbourne Design Week to create a piece of work utilising the waste generated by her practice, architect and multi-disciplinary designer Rosanna Ceravolo created a sculpture inspired by the architecture studio’s sample library, and by extension, the wastage generated by building procurement at large.

Rosanna’s elegant structure of offcuts from Fibonacci Stone’s slab products <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-graduate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Graduate</a> and <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/softshell" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">SoftShell</a> highlight the design industry’s need for a greater focus on the circular-economy yet also, by nature of its materiality, stressed its robustness through references to architectures of bygone eras to remind us of the potential longevity and enduring quality of the work of architects.

There’s an old saying about how stones can’t be polished without friction, and apart from its obvious reference to the material product of our business, it’s also a great metaphor for the past year. So, whilst acknowledging all of its unique hardships and heartbreaks, we’re choosing to concentrate on the shining moments, and we’re celebrating the incredible efforts of our amazing clients and our unbeatable staff and support teams at Fibonacci.
Across Australia, our stone has been laid in many outstanding projects within the residential, hospitality, commercial and even medical sectors. It has inspired material palettes – and resolved others; it’s been the star and the support act; and it’s been lauded by architects, designers, specifiers and end-users for its technical abilities, strength, durability, and importantly, its beauty.

Whilst it’s impossible to list each and every project, there a few that have really captured the spirit of Fibonacci, such as the masterful recreation of ‘The Stables’ bar in one of Perth’s CBD’s oldest buildings which featured <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-sunbaker" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Sunbaker</a>. The highly imaginative use of <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-graduate">The Graduate</a> by Maria Danos Architecture saw the creation of a stunning sculptural central bar at <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/mr-robertson-cafe-by-maria-danos-architecture" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mr Robertson</a>, and the atmospheric <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/fatimas-reflection">Fatima’s Reflection</a> provided a robust and symbolic base for the Florence Café by CoLab Design Studio.

The versatile appeal of <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-naturaliste" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Naturaliste</a> provided an unexpectedly serene addition to the floors of <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/marquise-flagship-store-by-doherty-design-studio" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marquise Babywear’s flagship</a> store by Doherty Design Studio, and Esoteriko Interior Architecture took a real estate office to the next level with its incredible use of <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/abstrakt" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Abstrakt</a> in the flooring, a bespoke front desk and bathroom vanities at <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/the-rubinstein-group-by-esoteriko" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rubinstein Group</a> Offices in Woollahra.

The traditionally sterile-looking environment of a <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/q-dermatology-by-outline-design-office" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dermatology practice</a> was given a serious makeover by Outline Design Studio who implemented both <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/flannel-flower" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flannel Flower</a> and <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/wintersun" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wintersun</a> into its flooring, ingeniously linking them with a brass inlay of the Q Dermatology logo. Our own star shooter, Haydn Cattach created a close-up worthy kitchen for his own <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/haydn-cattach-photographic-studio-by-nick-pearce-furniture-studio" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">photographic studio</a> with <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-raven" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Raven</a>, and in a feat of monochromatic mastery, Biasol Design created a <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/in-use/casa-chiaroscuro-by-biasol-design-studio" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">home of epic grandeur</a> featuring our wonderfully moody <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/eventide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eventide</a>.

Since its debut, the Fibonacci Stone slab range has received rave reviews, encores, and even spawned some spin-offs. “With our large format slab range, we released a product that in itself creates countless design opportunities – we found that architects, designers and specifiers leapt at the chance to implement it in bespoke creations from countertops and bars through to furniture such as desks, seating and tables, across offices, commercial and residential projects,” says Founder, Michael Karakolis.
“Quickly, the demand came for us to add more depth to the range, and to even make some of our existing tile designs available in this format. 2020’s highlights reel – More excellent performances from our Dramaturgy slab range

Fibonacci welcomes <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/ghosted" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ghosted</a> and <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/polarity" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Polarity</a> to the Matter collection.
Sometimes, it’s better to take things slowly – indeed, this must be one of the biggest collective lessons of our recent times. And, in the tale of the creation of these complex and layered new stone designs, we reveal more about the design process here at Fibonacci, and also about our desire to meld contemporary aesthetics with ancient traditions. As they say, timing is everything. When conceiving the two latest designs in our ethereal Matter collection, Founder Michael Karakolis looked to create a place in between the old and new worlds of terrazzo. Never one for the breakneck speed of trends, he strives to achieve a timeless balance, where the depth of a design is evident.

“Ghosted and Polarity were challenging to develop, but really worth it in the long run, as they have added another dimension to our collection,” says Karakolis. “More and more, designers love to see the intricacies and layers in a material, and there is a lot going on in our products – even in the most seemingly subtle ones.”
With over 300 designs in various stages of production at any time, Fibonacci has a wealth of material to draw upon – and designers are often delighted to be given a preview of an almost-released stone. Ghosted and Polarity have already been well received by some of Australia’s top interior designers prior to their release - including Flack Studio and Plus Architecture - as well as Doherty Design Studio, who commissioned both for a very special, yet to be revealed, residential project.

In describing her response to Ghosted, Mardi Doherty, Principal at Doherty Design Studio says, “What drew us in at first was the subtlety of this tile - the grey base exuded a sense of calm, warmth and softness that you don't always see in terrazzo”.
“However, the strength in this tile wasn't limited to the base colour. It appeared almost like a jewellery box of sorts - there was a beautiful mix of white and black aggregate, but on closer examination we started to see pops of nude blush and moments of green. These unexpected surprises created an added layer of complexity and interest that made us extremely excited to use this product.
“It's definitely not a showy 'here I am' kind of tile - instead it slowly reveals itself to you - we're still seeing new things in this tile, even having worked with it for a number of months. What it does provide is a beautiful and very versatile base for you to build our design on” says Mardi.

Similarly, the appeal of Polarity was its slow-burn reveal.
“We always saw Polarity as the moody, dramatic cousin to Ghosted, however, much like Ghosted it was the unexpected moments and layering that we found really captivating. Rich pops of cinnamon are deftly woven throughout the tile - when you see this en masse it may be the first thing that you are drawn to, however as with Ghosted not only did it provide a wonderful base for us to build on from a design perspective, we also loved the thought of someone living with this tile in their home and it still surprising them and revealing these little hidden moments to them years down the track,” says Mardi.

Raw and unpretentious in its aesthetic, Bloc exhibits all of the strength and beauty of Brutalist forms. The grainy grey and black-flecked base serves to anchor the light to mid-grey Carrera marble chips, creating a modest and restrained aesthetic.

Bloc is a subtle yet striking extension to our very successful <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/flannel-flower" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flannel Flower</a> design, and is available in 400x400 and 600x600.

Brackish has a subdued palette of white and faded grey with a sharp, gritty vibe, reminiscent of the brackish waters of oyster estuaries. Superb pearl-like hints of warm cream bring to mind Hemingway's famous quote après-oysters, “I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and make plans."
Brackish offers a slightly more restrained offering to our popular <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/poppin" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Poppin’</a>, and is available in 400x400 and 600x600.

Ultra-sophisticated and unexpected, Coral Underground turns the tables on traditional stone schemes with its diamond-like silver-grey shards set into the palest coral base. Feminine without being girly, its strength lies in its overall subtlety when laid en masse.

Coral Underground sits beautifully within our Intuit collection, offering a vigorous design in a warmer counterpart to the crisp coolness of <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/rocketman" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rocketman</a>, and is available in 400x400 and 600x600.

The flash of a tin pan catching the sun as the fossicker's eye scans the swirling stones for fortune. Amongst the smooth, rounded, pebbles of bisque, olive, tan, sand and beige, there lies a golden glint, a lucky strike. The beauty of Striker lies in its earthy and sophisticated palette, providing the perfect base for a contemporary Australian project.

An unabashedly nostalgic design, Striker encompasses the native Australian bush palette, a fitting addition to our Ankle Deep collection, that sits perfectly between <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/freckle" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Freckle</a> and <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/road-trip" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Road Trip</a> and is available in 400x400 and 600x600.

Although ancient in its beginnings, the rich tradition of creating composite stone has become an enduring craft, universally coveted by architects, designers and homemakers. But, as with most things created here in Australia, we like to add our own spin – or in our case – our own grit, to the story. Our unique Antipodean light, lifestyle and landscape calls for products that work within our own design vernacular.

“We work alongside Australia’s foremost architects, designers and builders, seeing the best new Australian commercial and residential projects from concept through to completion, and being able to provide terrazzo products that speak to these projects is an incredibly important part of our business,” says Fibonacci Founder, Michael Karakolis. “Our Ankle Deep range is inspired by the raw beauty of the Australian landscape, and is steeped in the colours and the sprit of Australia Felix.”

<a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/cool-stream" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cool Stream</a> is reminiscent of translucent, wintery streambeds, where specks of bluestone pepper the ground between small stones of rust, olive and grey. En masse it appears cool, but up close, the warm hues will shine.

Recalling the beauty of tiny freckles appearing on pale skin after a day in the sun, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/freckle" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Freckle</a> is a beautiful mix of softly rounded marble, limestone and granite is set within a warm white base. The occasional appearance of small burgundy and brown shades only increases the warmth and complexity of this stunning tile.

The blue horizon is a hot haze ahead; the dust and hurling stones flying behind. The windows down, travelling tunes, truck stops and the rhythmic bounce of tyres over rough-hewn roads.
It was this exhilarating feeling of escape that inspired <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/road-trip" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Road Trip</a>, with its mix of classic Australian stoney hues of olive, bisque, grey, black and a hint of umber.

 After a three-year overhaul to our supply chain, Fibonacci can now boast (a little) that we are the only Australian terrazzo stone company with a totally planned inventory - which means that our entire collection is available right now - not just a smattering of odds, ends, and project left-overs. “We have finally turned the tables in favour of the designer and the client,” says Founder, Michael Karakolis. 
“We’re well aware of the exacting nature of our clients – the architects, designers and the specifiers – and they abhor having to choose the next available option. It dilutes their design intent, leads to heartbreak for both designer and client, and results in unwanted compromise, and blow-outs in completion dates,” says Michael.
“Truly unique products, the ones that can’t be replicated, can make such a significant contribution to a project’s overall design, however these products often have limited availability or long lead times, making it impossible to meet project completion dates,” he says. “We feel it’s a big and important achievement for us to be able to take the stress and uncertainty out of the specification process, guaranteeing no lead time, and therefore, no need for re-selections,” he says.

The <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-sunbaker" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sunbaker</a> brings to mind a cooling dip in clear running water along a shallow riverbank, the soles of your feet navigating the mixture of smooth and sharp-edged pebbles. Timeless and intrinsically Australian in hue, The Sunbaker is ideally suited to honest, organically inspired architecture.

The palest tones of flesh, blush and salmon, inspired by the beauty of a ballerina's steps en pointe. We've christened this '<a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/pavlova" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pavlova</a>', as she was widely considered the first to adopt the pointe shoe, and for more obvious reasons... its resemblance to her eponymous and delicious dessert.

Otherworldly in shape and form, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/abstrakt" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Abstrakt</a> is sublimely gentle in its palette and composition, its pieces seeming to drift breezily around each other. Referencing the playful elements of design from the 1950s to 80s, it's inkblot-like shapes in shades of grey marble are set within a white base and present an assured, modernist form.

Hints of warmth in these beautifully translucent light grey and white shards create an unexpected softness (kind of like when the sun hits the slopes...or the ice in your poolside cocktail). When set into an even mid-grey base, <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/lands-edge" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lands Edge</a>'s effect is subtle, inviting a tactile response – it’s one of those products you’ll want to reach out and touch.

Dramatically set within a cool dark grey base, white, platinum and steely shapes pop with intense strength, as if hit by a spotlight. <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/poppin" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Poppin'</a> is a startling base for any strong monochromatic scheme.

To intuit is to know or discover by intuition... and, if there’s one thing designers might (we said might) agree on, it’s that decision making is not always rooted in logic or reason. And if we had a dollar for every time a client or customer said “I don’t know why I like it, but I just know I do,” well, we’d probably still be here, but we’d also be browsing a Tesla brochure. Design decision-making is as much about gut-instinct, familiarity and intuition – as it is the practical considerations, which is why we’ve brought together this family of styles under the <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/collection/intuit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Intuit</a> banner. 
“Ostensibly the most traditional of our terrazzo styles, the Intuit range is where history, nature and memory converge in a beautifully crafted Fibonacci product,” says Founder Michael Karakolis. “From the pleasurably faint warmth found in winter sun, to the reassuring sound of raindrops pelting the ground outside, or the recollection of writing on a chalkboard as a child, each of the Intuit range evokes rich memories, and a sense of beautiful familiarity.

The perfect contemporary neutral that brings to mind the unexpected pleasure of the warmth of soft winter sun. Here at Fibonacci, we believe that our products are much more than just the sum of their parts. History, craftsmanship, and materiality all converge with today’s best design practices to create a narrative for their future use – enabling us to work with architects and designers to create projects of exceptional quality and timelessness.
It’s an amazing time to be working with Australian and international designers – and to see other creators with a similar outlook doing so well in their respective fields.

Case in point is Nick McDonald, owner, designer and creator of Melbourne-based furniture studio, Made by Morgen. Nick’s childhood was spent on a farm; a building apprenticeship followed, then a stint in a large construction management firm. It was during a trip to Denmark that a fortuitous opportunity to work with and learn from a master furniture craftsman that set Nick on his course.

Back in Melbourne, the chance to design the fit-out for a mates store cemented his future path – and Made By Morgen was born. Its signature style combines a timeless blend of Scandinavian and Japanese influences, – all with a very Australian countenance.
A recent photo shoot by Lillie Thompson, styled by Bek Sheppard, beautifully illustrates the Made By Morgen furniture range. Bek’s stunning sets of pale grey battened walls featured Fibonacci's <a href="https://fibonacci.com.au/terrazzo/the-naturaliste" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Naturaliste</a> tiles - providing a sublime backdrop for Made By Morgen’s unique and individualised pieces. It was a great shoot be involved with, and we are very much looking forward to watching the future evolution of Made By Morgen.
