Lyrebird House is a heritage-listed Art Deco residence, built in 1940 and located in Caulfield North, Melbourne. The recent renovation presented an opportunity to preserve and restore the original façade and front three rooms, while introducing a contemporary extension at the rear and a new first-floor addition with bedroom and bathroom amenities.
Designed for a professional couple and their five young children, the home reflects a clear and confident design vision. With a strong appreciation for materiality and a significant collection of original artworks, the owners sought to create a space that felt expressive and layered—rejecting a neutral palette in favour of colour, pattern, and warmth.
Fibonacci terrazzo features prominently throughout. Fatima’s Reflection was selected for the upstairs ensuite, its soft blush and nuanced tone offering a sense of calm and continuity. In contrast, Carmelita brings depth and character to the powder room, its rich mix of coral and warm earthy aggregates adding a bold but balanced counterpoint.
Lyrebird House is the result of careful decision-making and a clear respect for the home’s architectural heritage. Every material has been chosen with purpose, contributing to a series of spaces that feel cohesive, expressive, and enduring.
