When it came to the all-important task of selecting the materials, Jen, Martin, and the interior design team at Cantilever looked for products that were neutral, calm and clean-lined, and importantly, that would work just as hard as Jen does in the kitchen. A material palette of white cabinetry and hoop pine open shelves, and the original concrete floor created a quite restrained base, yet Jen wanted “something with a bit more wow and glamour in the middle, and Fibonacci had just announced that they were releasing their slab terrazzo, so we chose a slab for the Island bench,” she says. “It works beautifully with the neutral tones, the industrial feel of the space, and it’s a little bit of an ode to the older features of the house, as our existing bathroom has the original terrazzo that was poured when they first put that bathroom floor in. It’s a nice tie back to the home’s history.”
